Gameplay Guide

Welcome to Dreamio, an AI-powered choose-your-own-adventure game where your choices shape the story.

Starting a New Adventure

To begin, select a story Template from the main menu. Templates are starting scenarios created by you or other players. They include an introductory text, a starting image, and instructions for the narrator AI.

You can also create your own template. After selecting a template, the game will load, and the adventure begins!

How to Play

The game is played by typing your actions in the text box at the bottom of the screen. You can describe what you want to do, say, or think. The AI Narrator will then describe the outcome of your action and present the next part of the story.

Example:

You: I open the creaky wooden door.

Narrator: The door groans open, revealing a dusty, torch-lit corridor. A faint, cold breeze extinguishes your torch, plunging you into darkness. What will you do next?

There are no pre-defined choices. Your imagination is the only limit.

Gameplay Interface

  • Input Field: This is where you type your actions. Press Enter to submit your action to the AI Narrator.
  • Microphone Button: Click this to use your microphone to dictate your actions. This uses Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) to transcribe your voice into text.
  • Undo: Made a mistake or want to try a different path? You can use the Undo button to go back to your previous turn. The game keeps a history of your last three moves.
  • Choices: Stuck for ideas? The "What are my choices?" button will ask the AI to generate a few possible actions you could take.
  • Dice Rolls: You can enable the Dice Roll feature to add an element of chance to your actions. The narrator will decide when a roll is necessary and what the outcome is.
  • Illustrations: The game generates an AI illustration for each scene. You can choose to have images generated automatically, or manually by clicking the "Generate Illustration" button.
  • Save/Load: You can save or load your game at any time from the in-game menu.

Game Over

The Narrator can decide to end the game if your character dies or the story reaches a conclusion. When this happens, the input box will be disabled. You can use the Undo or Load Autosave button to return to the previous turn and continue playing. You can also adjust the Narrator's instructions in the Options menu to prevent "Game Over" scenarios.
